The American Water Spaniels that are to be bred should be physically and structurally sound and free from any serious inherited defects, including, but not limited to, serious allergies and thyroid problems, immune system problems, coat problems, or temperament problems.

 

Members should:
1. Be willing to accept some responsibility for the breed as a whole.

2. Conduct themselves in a manner which will reflect credit upon the Club and other fanciers of the breed.

3. Be familiar with the rules and regulations of the various events in which they participate and always abide by them.

4. Exhibit friendly sportsmanship.

5. Refrain from making false and / or misleading statements or misrepresentations of their dogs or the dogs or practices of other members.

6. Refrain from public criticism or malicious degrading of other members, their dogs, or the Club in all forms of communication and advertising.

7. Advise and assist newcomers to the breed.

8. Care for their dogs(s) in a way that protects their health, safety, and wellbeing.

Members who are or plan to become breeders should:

9.  Breed only American Water Spaniels that possess stable, tractable, and trainable temperaments.

10. Breed only American Water Spaniels for the purpose of improving the breed.

11. Breed only healthy American Water Spaniels

12. Breed only those American Water Spaniels with the intention of perpetuating the natural hunting ability of the breed.

13. Breed only with the intent to conform to the written standard as recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC).

14. Place American Water Spaniels in responsible, permanent, and caring homes.

15. Not sell, supply, donate, or surrender any puppy or adult dog for which they are responsible to a pet shop, catalog house, wholesale dog dealer, humane society, or laboratory.

16. Breeders should place puppies in homes no earlier than 7 weeks of age, in healthy, robust conditions, and be accompanied by a complete health and vaccination history.  They should also provide care and feeding instructions, AKC papers, and written documentation of all agreed upon sales conditions, and guarantees, including a pedigree of at least three generations.  

17.  Breeders would honor all contracts regarding sales, co-ownerships, breeding rights, agreements, compensations, leases, stud service, or any other written agreements set forth.
