On March 17, 2020, my husband and I brought home our new American Water Spaniel pup. His name - Lucky! I was supposed to be in NYC that day with my grandson and daughter, all of us going out there from WIsconsin - maybe in time for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. But as the times would have it - COVID had struck and everything was cancelled, including our trip. So for two years now, Lucky’s life has been that steered by COVID. He does not know the word, nor does he care. He has us, in our senior years, loving and taking care of him in many ways as no other dog we have ever had before. Not hardly any visitors here. He sees us sometimes in masks. We probably are more serious. No Christmas tree in December, 2021, hardly a Christmas decoration. But guess what - Lucky goes walking two times everyday. He has hunted joyfully with my husband in the seasons. He loves his treats and is just this good natured young dog. He does not know COVID - no dog language for that. He does not know the world or the world worries. Lucky lives the life of a dog, our happy dog. As should be. And we are so grateful - gratitude learned through this pandemic. I am so grateful for the day we were able to bring this dog into our lives. And to me - we are the lucky ones. And always will be.
